What on earth have I been doing?

I moved home due to lack of money, that was my first mistake as Stafford has a certain lack of creative buzz around it even though it calls itself 'the creative county', but it was necessary at the time. For the last couple of months I have been working as a Graphics Intern at Saint Gebain Abrasives marketing department part time, and, as a means of money only, working at the Argos contact centre being tied to a desk for 6 hours at a time, literally.

Working at SGA has been great, it has really improved my graphics skills, as well as keeping my brain alive. In an attempt to get back to London I have been applying for as much as possible to no avail. But for the last few weeks I have been discovering many interesting and exciting creative developments around the West Midlands.

The most potentially interesting area I have discovered is Digbeth's Custard Factory area. There are many vintage shops, craft shops and little design businesses I had no idea were there before. It's beginning to make me think may be I can start a Design career in the Midlands, and not have to keep idolising London. But I do have to admit I will always idolise the city while I am away from it and craving the creative outlets I had available to me there.

Another Midlands lovely I had never heard about before is the Birmingham Flat Pack Festival. This is a film festival, not an Ikea convention as my boss at SGA thought. Over the last few years I have developed a keen interest in film, particularly animation, and I am very excited about trying to get to see as much of this as possible.

I have started this blog as I know the format has helped me before to consolidate my thoughts about myself, my work and my career. If interested please look at my Animating the Inanimate blog from the final year of my degree.
